All current and future cloud computing and storage, IoT, AR/VR, Software-as-a-service(SaaS), Infrastructure-as-a-service(IaaS) applications are powered by large scale data-centers. Short-reach optical communications form the cornerstone of data center connections and has become a key market segment and growing research area in recent years. Short-reach systems are characterized by direct detection receiver configurations, low-cost and small form factor components. These result in new fundamental research problems and practical implementation challenges from a signal processing point of view. In this paper and presentation, we provide an overview of up-to-date DSP techniques for short-reach systems and discuss future trends. Leave a comment and let us know what you think!
